Bibiani: Two men jailed seven years for raping minor

Two men have been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment each with hard labour by the Bibiani Circuit Court for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Bibiani Hwenampori.
The convicts, 18-year-old tricycle operator Theophilus Ankrah and 20-year-old Plaster of Paris (POP) specialist Kwaku Nkrumah, also known as Prince, were found guilty following investigations by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at the Bibiani Command.
Court records indicate that on February 8, 2026, the victim, a JHS One student, left her home in the evening and returned a few hours later. After being reprimanded by her mother, Dorothy Biri, 40, a trader, she left the house again and encountered the accused at Bibiani Hwenampori Voda House Junction. The first accused, riding a tricycle, approached her and asked why she was crying. She narrated her situation to them, after which both men lured her to their residence.
The prosecution explained that the victim was kept at the accused’s home from Sunday evening until Wednesday evening. During this period, both accused engaged in repeated sexual acts with her before finally returning her home. The matter was reported to DOVVSU, headed by ASP Evelyn Yitamkey of the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Division. Police investigations, including a medical report, confirmed the victim’s account.
Following the investigations, the accused were arrested and arraigned before the Bibiani Circuit Court. The court convicted both men and imposed seven-year jail terms with hard labour.
After the sentencing, ASP Evelyn Yitamkey urged parents and guardians to adopt friendly and supportive approaches toward their daughters to prevent exposing them to danger. She also cautioned young people, particularly young men, to exercise care in their conduct and relationships with females, stressing that the law will act firmly against offenders.
The convictions bring an end to the case at the Bibiani Circuit Court, ensuring the accused serve the full term prescribed by law, and highlight the important role of DOVVSU in investigating sexual offences and protecting vulnerable minors.
