Breaking News: Abu Trica granted bail by Accra High Court

The Accra High Court has granted bail to Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, today April 21, 2026, in an ongoing international cybercrime and fraud case.
His lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, confirmed the development in a Facebook post shortly after the ruling, writing: “The High Court has just granted Bail to Abu Trica. Shalom.”
Abu Trica was granted bail after appearing before the court earlier in the day under tight security. The bail conditions were not immediately made public, although the decision marks a significant development in a case that has drawn both local and international attention.
He has been facing extradition-related proceedings following his arrest by Ghanaian security agencies in connection with allegations raised by United States authorities.
According to U.S. prosecutors in the Northern District of Ohio, Kumi is alleged to be part of a wider cyber fraud scheme that targeted elderly victims and defrauded them of more than US$8 million through online romance scams and related deceptive financial activities.
The indictment outlines allegations including cyber fraud, identity theft, and illicit financial transactions, said to have occurred from 2023 through coordinated online operations.
Abu Trica was first brought before the Court in December 2025 under heavy security following his arrest, after which extradition proceedings were initiated at the request of U.S. authorities.
The case was adjourned to January 13, 2026, for continuation of hearings, where prosecutors were expected to present further evidence in support of extradition, while the defence challenged aspects of the indictment.
With the latest ruling, Abu Trica is expected to remain subject to court-imposed conditions as the legal process continues.
