Cat with ‘human lips’ leaves internet stunned

A cat’s unusual appearance has taken the internet by storm after its owner shared a photo on Reddit. The feline’s pink, defined mouth has led to thousands of views and a mix of reactions, with some users finding it hilarious and others expressing concern about potential health issues. The owner posted the picture with the caption: “I think she feels bonita all the time, but it’s creepy how human she can look. Is this normal?”
The cat’s unique look isn’t the only quirky thing about her. The owner mentioned a strange color change that suggested a moody past, saying: “She started getting black lips when she was about to turn two (I was sad), but went back to pink in no time. So, I’m assuming she had a goth teenager phase for a sec.”
Some users chimed in with their own experiences of cats with human-like features. One commenter said: “I am literally dead. Cat lips are my favorite part of the cat and this is hilarious.”
Another user shared: “I love uncannily human cats, mine has been described to look like a balding old man.” They added: “Your cat made me laugh out loud.”
A third user suggested the look might be linked to genetics: “It’s the breed, I have one in the same color and also has the lip thing. Mine is also cross eyed and very talkative. Such a cute ball of fluff.”
One more owner shared: “My cat grew ‘lips’ after a food sensitivity incident. It does look weirdly human.”
While many found the cat’s feature funny, some Reddit users expressed concern that the appearance could be a sign of a medical condition, such as Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex (EGC).
One user, claiming personal experience, posted: “My cat has confirmed EGC and it looks exactly like this. Your cat more than likely has it too and needs a steroid treatment to manage this and be monitored closely in the future. It can cause issues with ulcers on other body parts as well and happen inside of their mouths … I’m frankly shocked if a vet wouldn’t diagnose this and consider this normal.”
The owner responded directly to the medical concern, saying they would discuss it with their veterinarian but noted the pet has never shown any symptoms of illness.
“I just Googled it, and my cat has never had flare ups like that or ulcers and it never looked bad or painful or bled, thankfully,” the owner wrote.
“She seems healthy, happy and playful and I’m grateful for that every day. I don’t want to self-diagnose my baby, but like I said I’ll talk to her vet. Thank you for your concern.”
The cat owner confirmed that they regularly take the feline to the vet for checkups, and the vet has never noted the lips as problematic.
“So, I’m guessing she’s fine,” the owner concluded. The cat with human lips remains a healthy, happy mystery. This phenomenon isn’t entirely new, as some cat breeds like Maine Coon are known for their human-like faces.
Valkyrie, a 2-month-old Maine Coon kitten, went viral for her strikingly human-like face, with many comparing her to an elderly man.
