‘Dr. Bawumia does not exist in my life’ – Kennedy Agyapong

Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has launched a fresh jab at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He accused him and his campaign team of masterminding insults against him and plotting to influence the party’s internal electoral processes.
Speaking in an interview on UTV, Mr. Agyapong claimed that individuals who consistently attack him verbally are acting at the behest of Dr. Bawumia’s camp. He insisted that he has deliberately chosen to distance himself from the former Vice President, declaring that Dr. Bawumia plays no role in his political life.
“Dr. Bawumia does not exist in my life,” he said, stressing that he has no interest in engaging with him despite being aware of those allegedly working against him.
The former Assin Central Member of Parliament further alleged that there were plans within Dr. Bawumia’s camp to manipulate votes during the party’s internal elections. According to him, while he maintains confidence in the party’s overall structures, certain developments have raised concerns.
“I believe in the party’s structures, but I am aware that some officials of the party’s Electoral Commission have been holding meetings to plan things in favour of Dr. Bawumia,” Mr. Agyapong alleged.
He also claimed that party security mechanisms were being positioned to support these alleged schemes, warning that such actions could undermine internal democracy within the NPP.
“They have intended to use party security to do this,” he stated.
Mr. Agyapong reiterated that he has been subjected to sustained insults, which he believes are coordinated efforts from Dr. Bawumia’s camp. However, he maintained that he harbours no resentment over the matter.
“I don’t harbour pain in me. If you do that, you will die early,” he remarked.
Reflecting on his role in the party’s previous presidential campaign, Mr. Agyapong expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of appreciation for his efforts. He recalled actively campaigning for Dr. Bawumia in the past but said the gesture was not acknowledged.
“In Dr. Bawumia’s previous election, I campaigned for him. He could not even say thank you. After the election, rather they were insulting me,” he said.
Mr. Agyapong did not clearly state whether he would support the party’s eventual flagbearer should he lose the ongoing contest, but his comments highlight growing tensions within the NPP as the race for the party’s presidential ticket intensifies.
