Dropping charges on NDC appointees: I acted reasonably and fairly – Ayine

Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has justified his decision to drop charges in certain high-profile cases, citing his commitment to acting reasonably and fairly.

According to Dr. Ayine, his actions were guided by the principles of reasonableness and fairness, as mandated by the Constitution.

In essence, Dr. Ayine is emphasizing that his decision to discontinue prosecutions against certain individuals was not taken lightly, but rather after careful consideration and consultation with relevant stakeholders.

“In the exercise of my prosecutorial power, I must not only act reasonably and fairly and comply with all the requirements imposed on me by law but also, I must be candid with those whose life and liberty depend on my decisions.”

Article 88 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana states that “The Attorney-General shall be the principal legal adviser to the Government and shall be responsible for the initiation and conduct of all prosecutions of criminal offences.”
