World Cup: US Embassy warns Ghanaians against fake visa documents

The United States Embassy in Ghana has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians against submitting fake documents when applying for U.S. visas, emphasizing that dishonesty could permanently bar applicants from entering the country.
In a post on social media, the embassy cautioned: “Lying or providing fake documents can lead to a permanent ban to the United States.”
The post included a visual reminding applicants that submitting fraudulent documents is considered visa fraud and has long-term consequences.
The embassy also stated that it continually monitors and stays ahead of individuals or vendors who attempt to sell fake documents and adapts its security measures to counter emerging threats.
“Protect your future travel opportunities – tell the truth and do not provide fake documents,” the post added.
The advisory comes as the United States prepares to co-host the FIFA World Cup in June.
Embassy officials highlighted that with the expected surge in travel to the U.S. around the tournament, authorities will remain vigilant to ensure that all visa applicants adhere to the law.
Travel experts in Accra have noted that some people seeking visas for major international events sometimes resort to dishonest methods, unaware of the long-term repercussions.
“Even one attempt to submit fraudulent documents can ruin future chances of obtaining a visa,” said one immigration consultant, who asked not to be named.
The embassy urged all prospective travelers to rely on official channels and ensure that their applications are accurate and truthful.
Providing false information or documents, they warned, is a violation that could result in permanent ineligibility for U.S. entry.
As excitement builds ahead of the World Cup, officials reiterated that integrity in the visa process is crucial.
They advised applicants to plan ahead, gather legitimate documents, and avoid shortcuts that could jeopardize their travel plans.
