Per diem saga: We are asking for accountability and transparency – Black Queens to Sports Ministry

Ghana’s Black Queens team has raised questions, seeking basic communication, respect, transparency, and accountability from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation in relation to not receiving per diem and winning bonuses.

In a statement issued by the Black Queens on Thursday, 13 August, 2026, they noted that going public was their option, but a result of a continuous season of silence from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.

“Going public was not our preferred choice. It was a last resort after our attempts to communicate were met with continued silence. Had the Ministry engaged with us directly, we would have preferred to resolve these matters privately and constructively,” the statement said.

They, however, seek clarification from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation on two critical matters: “Why were the per diems not paid from the start of camp?”

“The Ministry refers to payments from 26 July onwards, but our official duties began on 11 July. We believe this period should also be accounted for and clarified,” they demanded.

According to the Black Queens, winning bonuses were paid to them last year. “The same Minister and the Ministry paid us a qualification bonus last year, so we are surprised by the current statement that there is no qualification bonus under the current framework,” they added.

From the perspective of the Black Queens, payment of the winning bonus was communicated to them by the Minister, but they only received $700, which is not the intended winning bonus.

“On 28 July, the Minister came to our training session and told us that the accountant would bring our qualification bonuses for the Egypt matches. When he arrived, he brought only $700, which he also shared on his social media. This was not the qualification bonus communicated to us.”

They therefore ask for clarity, consistency, and transparency regarding these commitments.

These came after the Ministry of Sports and Recreation released a public statement denying claims of unpaid per diems and disputing the bonus.
