A 36-year-old entrepreneur has been arrested by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over allegations of online sexual exploitation.
The suspect, Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, who lives at East Legon in Accra, was arrested on May 6, 2026, during a joint operation by the Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General, Lydia Yaako Donkor, said investigations show the suspect allegedly operated a Telegram platform called “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”
Police claim the suspect allegedly used a drug identified as alprazolam, also known as Xanax, to sedate unsuspecting women before sexually abusing them, recording the incidents and sharing the videos online without their consent.
According to the CID, the suspect allegedly targeted victims at nightclubs and other locations, where he is believed to have drugged women before committing similar offences and sharing the content online.
During the arrest, police retrieved several items, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device and empty sachets suspected to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.
The Ghana Police Service said the electronic devices have been taken for forensic examination, while the suspected drug sachets have been sent to the Food and Drugs Authority for testing.
Commissioner Donkor confirmed that the suspect has been put before court, while investigations continue.
Police have also urged the public to report cases of cyber-related sexual exploitation and abuse to the appropriate authorities.
