Former Adenta MP lauds Julius Debrah, others for support during battle with kidney failure

Former Adentan Member of Parliament Kojo Adu-Asare has praised Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and other prominent figures for supporting him during his battle with kidney failure.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, the former lawmaker recounted his six-year struggle with the disease and acknowledged individuals across the political divide who stood by him throughout the difficult period.
Kojo Adu-Asare reserved special mention for Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, saying the support he received from him and the Presidency would remain unforgettable.
“I also want to mention Julius Debrah and, by extension, the Presidency for their support,” he stated during the interview.
The former MP also expressed appreciation to the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre, Kwadwo Twum Boafo, for honouring a promise to assist him when the need arose.
According to Kojo Adu-Asare, Ing. Twum Boafo assured him of support after learning about his condition and remained true to his word during the period leading to his kidney transplant.
“My brother, Kwadwo Twum Boafo, who is the CEO of the Financial Intelligence Centre, assured me that once we reached the stage where I needed help, I should let him know. Indeed, when the time came, he did everything he could,” he said.
He further commended former Roads and Highways Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, describing him as dependable throughout the ordeal.
“Hon. Amoako-Atta, the former Roads Minister, is a fantastic human being. Wherever he is now, I want him to know that he is a different kind of person,” he added.
Kojo Adu-Asare also mentioned former Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam and current Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson among those whose support he deeply appreciated.
Beyond expressing gratitude, the former legislator used the platform to caution Ghanaians against relying solely on unverified herbal treatments for kidney-related conditions.
“I’ve been living with kidney disease… there are stages. Once it gets to stage four, you are at the end stage. And once you get to the end stage, you are stuck. There is no way to reverse it,” he explained.
He warned that delaying proper treatment could worsen complications and lead to emergency situations.
“Herbalists can tell you all manner of stories, but one day you may end up in the emergency room. When it gets to that point, please seek proper medical care because some concoctions can worsen the situation,” he advised.
