Oppong-Peprah, Dotsei Malor appointed Ghana’s Deputy Ambassadors

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed former Chief of Defence Staff, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, as Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to Canada. The appointment marks a continuation of the retired military leader’s distinguished service to the nation, this time in a diplomatic capacity.
Key among the appointees are General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, a former Chief of Defence Staff under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has been appointed Deputy Head of Mission to Canada, and Ben Dotsei Malor, a former Presidential Communications Advisor, who will serve as Deputy Head of Mission to the United States of America.
The decision, announced on Tuesday, forms part of President Mahama’s broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s international relations by deploying experienced and disciplined leaders to key foreign missions. General Oppong-Peprah is expected to bring his extensive background in security, leadership, and international cooperation to bear on Ghana’s engagement with Canada.
A respected figure in both military and diplomatic circles, General Oppong-Peprah served as Chief of Defence Staff with distinction, earning recognition for his commitment to professionalism, peacekeeping, and national security. His leadership was instrumental in advancing Ghana’s participation in regional and UN peace operations, as well as improving military readiness and discipline within the Ghana Armed Forces.
His appointment to Canada is being viewed by analysts as a strategic move to deepen Ghana’s ties with one of its most important development and trade partners. Canada has long supported Ghana in sectors such as education, governance, agriculture, and peacebuilding, and General Oppong-Peprah’s appointment is expected to enhance cooperation in these areas.
At the Ghana High Commission in Ottawa, General Oppong-Peprah will assist in representing Ghana’s diplomatic interests, promoting investment opportunities, and engaging with the Ghanaian diaspora community. His experience in managing complex operations and fostering international collaboration is seen as an asset to Ghana’s foreign service.
General Oppong-Peprah is expected to assume his new duties following standard diplomatic and administrative procedures.
The Private Newspapers and Online Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) has congratulated two of its members on their appointment as ambassadors.
Sir Benedict Batabe Assorow and Alhaji Haruna Attah were named to diplomatic posts by the Government of Ghana.
Mr Assorow, a veteran journalist and former Editor of the Catholic Standard, has been appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to the Vatican. Mr Attah, who previously worked with the Daily Mail, will serve as Ambassador to Namibia.
In a statement issued in Accra, PRINPAG described the two as “distinguished and longstanding members” whose contributions to journalism and public discourse had been exemplary.
“Both appointees are distinguished and longstanding members of PRINPAG whose contributions to journalism, publishing, and public discourse have been exemplary. Their elevation to such high diplomatic offices is a testament not only to their individual dedication and competence but also to the recognition of the pivotal role media practitioners play in national development.
