GES opens applications for promotion of teaching staff

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications for the promotion of teaching staff.
The promotions cover senior ranks including Deputy Director, Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Principal Superintendent.
In a circular dated Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Service invited suitably qualified serving teachers and officers to apply for consideration, provided they meet the required conditions.
According to the notice, applicants for the position of Deputy Director must have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Director I in or before 2021 and must have served continuously at post since that date, except for periods of approved leave of absence.
Similarly, applicants seeking promotion to Assistant Director I are required to have attained the rank of Assistant Director II in or before 2021, while those applying for Assistant Director II should have been promoted to Principal Superintendent in or before 2021. Applicants for Principal Superintendent must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I in or before 2021 and served continuously. The circular further noted that holders of approved undergraduate degrees would be automatically placed on the Principal Superintendent rank.
GES also clarified the requirements for teachers with advanced qualifications. Officers relying on Master’s or PhD degrees must ensure their programmes were undertaken on approved GES courses of study. Additionally, such certificates should not have been obtained before their last promotion, and only certificates earned in or after 2023 will be valid for consideration for Assistant Director I, Assistant Director II, and Deputy Director ranks.
The Service outlined the application process, directing applicants to complete an online form at [https://bit.ly/GESPROMOTION25](https://bit.ly/GESPROMOTION25). Required documents include a passport-sized photograph, last promotion or appointment letter, upgrading letter, and the highest academic certificate relevant to the promotion. All submissions must be uploaded in PDF format, except for the passport picture, which may be in JPEG or PNG.
The application window runs from Thursday, September 11, 2025, to Thursday, October 2, 2025. GES stressed that all applicants who had previously applied must reapply under the new directive.
The circular was signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, Acting Deputy Director-General (MS), on behalf of the Acting Director-General of the GES.
