GNAT hails government commitment to resolving challenges in education sector

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has applauded the government’s efforts in addressing age-old challenges that adversely affect its members.
Speaking during the launch of the Ghana Teacher Prize 2025 at the GNAT Hall, Accra, the association’s president, Reverend Isaac Owusu, said teachers remained dedicated amid prevailing problems in the discharge of their duties.
The event was attended by the Minister for Education, Harun Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, and directors from the Ministry.
The President of GNAT, in his welcome address, said it was noteworthy that the powers that be within the education space had taken the issues up in an attempt to resolve them in a timely manner.
“I must also admit that in fact, we’ve seen the commitment on the part of the government in making sure that some of these issues are resolved on time and Mr Minister, once you are here, I know that you are doing everything together with the Director-General to resolve the issue of teachers on duty to directors,” he said.
He continued: “We acknowledge the many challenges teachers face, such as poor accommodation, resource limitation, workload, infrastructure deficits, and among others. Yet, teachers remain committed to ensuring quality education under difficult conditions.”
Reverend Owusu said the modern teacher’s role went beyond an instructor in the classroom. He said teachers remained mentors, community leaders, counsellors and gatekeepers who have cemented their role in society as “critical issue builders”.
