Be patient, more jobs coming – Asiedu Nketiah

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on Ghanaians to remain calm as the ongoing recruitment into the country’s security services unfolds.
He said the government is concentrating on strengthening the economy, which he described as essential for creating sustainable employment opportunities for young people.
His remarks follow statements by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, who disclosed that more than 105,000 applicants had qualified for the medical stage of the security recruitment exercise, despite only 5,000 positions being available for final selection. Minister Muntaka also revealed that nearly 500,000 people submitted applications, underscoring the high demand for security service jobs.
Speaking to supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Asiedu Nketiah stressed that impatience could complicate the situation. He explained that immediate solutions are not always possible and that careful planning is necessary to ensure fairness and effectiveness.
“The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this,” he said.
He added that the government’s economic initiatives are beginning to yield results, which will eventually translate into more job opportunities. “We are already beginning to see the benefits. We must exercise a little more patience to allow these efforts to create opportunities for everyone,” Asiedu Nketiah said.
Addressing concerns about frustration among applicants, he urged the public to exercise restraint. “Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has requested that the Ministry of the Interior refund roughly GH¢113 million collected from applicants who did not qualify, citing the need to address public concerns about funds paid during the recruitment process.
Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that while the current recruitment has a limited number of positions, further employment opportunities are expected as the economy continues to improve. He reassured Ghanaians that patience will allow the government’s measures to produce more openings for the youth in the future.
