GoldBod records $11.6bn in small-scale gold exports in 2026 – Sammy Gyamfi

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has recorded US$11.6 billion in gold exports from the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector between January 1 and October 20, 2026, surpassing earnings from large-scale gold exports over the same period.
GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, disclosed this at the Mining in Motion Conference on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, stating that the Board had aggregated and exported 85.4 tonnes of ASM gold within the period.
He said the figure exceeded the 76 tonnes of gold exported by large-scale miners, valued at US$11.1 billion.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the story is not different this year. In fact, it is better. The GoldBod remains on track to surpass last year’s outturn,” Mr Gyamfi said.
He added that foreign exchange inflows from the sector continued to support the country’s reserves and currency stability.
“FX inflows from the ASM sector continues to anchor FX intermediation, support reserve build-up and currency stability,” he said.
Mr Gyamfi noted that the sector’s export performance had grown significantly in recent years, with ASM gold exports increasing from 63 tonnes in 2024 to approximately 104 tonnes in 2025.
According to him, the 2025 performance marked the first time in Ghana’s history that exports from the small-scale mining sector surpassed those of large-scale miners.
He said the sector generated US$10.8 billion in foreign exchange in 2025, contributing to foreign exchange market stability and strengthening Ghana’s international reserves.
Mr Gyamfi further attributed part of the cedi’s 41 per cent appreciation against the US dollar in 2025 to the foreign exchange inflows generated by ASM gold exports.
He expressed confidence that GoldBod would exceed its 2025 export performance by the end of 2026, as it continues to aggregate and export gold from the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
