Gov’t has not sacked any health worker – Akandoh

Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has refuted claims that the Mahama administration has dismissed health workers employed during the Nana Addo government.

There have been reports that some health workers had their employment terminated following a directive from the Chief of Staff instructing that those hired after the December 7 elections should be let go.

The reports resulted in the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association threatening a strike.

The government, however, subsequently clarified that no health workers were affected by the directive.

The minority in Parliament questioned the basis for the dismissal directive from the government naming President Mahama Terminator General.

Speaking at the induction ceremony of a new rector for the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, Minister for Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh reiterated that health workers were not affected by the directive.

The Juaboso MP called on the public to ignore the rumor that some health workers have been sacked, and he described it as lies.

Mr. Akandoh also announced that the government is in the process of rolling out a policy that will see health workers who accept postings to rural communities get 20% salary increments.

The development, according to the minister, is to ensure equitable quality healthcare service delivery.
