Gov’t must explain failure to release seed money to SD Dombo University – Dr. Apaak

The deputy ranking member on the Education Committee, Dr. Clement Apaak has expressed shock why the government has failed to release the seed money to the University.
This comes on the back of the Management of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) appealing to the government for the release of seed money to enhance its operation.
Chairman of the University Council, Kweku Yamoah Paintsil made the appeal when he was addressing the second congregation of the University in Wa over the weekend.
Permit me Mr. President to use this opportunity once again to appeal to you as the Republic of Ghana with regard to our seed money. We regret to bring to your notice that in spite of our valiant efforts we have been unavailing to get these funds released to us,” the Chairman appealed.
Commenting on the development, the Builsa South lawmaker disclosed that the 7th Parliament agreed upon the issue of seed money to the new Universities adding that the government must explain where the seed money is.
According to him, the situation may not be different from other new universities.
“I’m surprised to learn that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government is yet to release seed money to the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).
“When we passed the law to carve out the CK Tedam and SD Dombo Universities from UDS in the 7th Parliament, the issues of seed money were agreed upon. Government’s failure to honour its responsibility has compelled the management of SD Dombo University to appeal for the release of seed money to enhance its operations,” Dr. Apaak stated.
The Builsa South MP further stated that “While I’m yet to check with other such new tertiary institutions, I’m pretty sure the situation will likely be the same for CK Tedam University.
“Why has the seed money not been paid? Where is the seed money? We will demand answers and advocate for the right thing to be done. I will surely take this up.”
