Govt to establish two universities in Bono East – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by the government to establish a Technical University and a University of Health and Life Sciences in the Bono East Region.
He explained that the proposed Technical University would be established in Techiman, the regional capital, and the University of Health and Life Sciences would be built at Kintampo.
The President was speaking at Kintampo on Thursday as part of his one-day “thank you” tour aimed at appreciating the chiefs and people of the region for their votes and support during the 2024 general elections, which gave him the victory.
“We are working closely with the Bono East Coordinating Council, the Lands Commission and the Techiman Traditional Council to establish a Technical University in Techiman, a site has already been selected at Oforikrom in addition to that, plans are underway for the establishment of the University of Health and Life Sciences here in Kintampo”.
He said technical education was essential for industrial growth and job creation and “with these institutions, we aim to bridge the skills gap and create opportunities for the youth of the region.”
President Mahama said his vision for all-inclusive education would target the completion of all abandoned E-blocks and the absorption of first-year admission fees for all students entering public tertiary institutions, including the establishment of the two universities in the region.
“My visit today is one of gratitude, reflection, and a renewed commitment to duty. I returned to my in-laws’ region to say thank you to you for your overwhelming support in the 2024 general elections.
“You stood strongly behind me. You voted for the reset agenda, you voted for truth, you voted for unity and development. Today I have returned with a solemn promise that I will not betray your trust and faith in me”.
President Mahama said good governance had led to the fast stabilising of the Cedi, with inflation also declining gradually.
“Today I’m pleased to report to you from Kintampo in the Bono East Region that our currency, the Cedi, is stabilizing,” he said.
President Mahama said investors had gained confidence in the economy and were returning, while Ghanaians were beginning to feel a slow but steady relief when they went to the markets.
He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development, explaining that the “Big Push” agenda bing implemented by this government would make sure that the region got its fair share.
