GWL moves to resolve water shortages in Anfoega

Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) has moved to address persistent water supply challenges in Anfoega and nearby communities, assuring residents of concrete steps to restore stable and reliable water services.

The assurance followed a working visit by GWL’s Managing Director, Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, and a team of senior officials to the Paramount Chief of Anfoega Akukome, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, as part of efforts to directly engage traditional leadership over the crisis.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the GWL team to receive firsthand accounts of the impact of the shortages and to review operational difficulties affecting water delivery in the broader Kpando area.

Togbe Tepre Hodo IV welcomed the delegation but expressed concern that earlier attempts by community leaders to draw the company’s attention to the problem had yielded little response, leaving residents with no option but to depend on unsafe water sources.

In response, GWL officials explained that the Kpando Water Treatment Plant, which has an installed capacity of 6,400 cubic metres per day, is currently operating at less than half capacity, producing about 3,000 cubic metres, a situation the company says it is determined to improve.

Mr. Mutawakilu assured the chief and residents that long-term interventions would be rolled out to enhance production and strengthen distribution networks, in line with the government’s “Water for All” policy.

He stressed that restoring a reliable supply to Anfoega and the surrounding communities remains a priority, adding that access to safe and affordable water must be equitable.

The Managing Director was accompanied by Ing. Michael Botse Baidoo, Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations; Mr. Michael Klutse, Chief Manager for Corporate Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Ing. Amidu Musah, Chief Manager of Operations; Mr. Stanley Martey, Chief Manager for Public Relations and Communication; Ing. Emmanuel Johnson, Chief Manager for the Volta Region; along with other senior officials.
