How Bawumia abandoned National Chief Imam’s School at Fadama

In a community where promises often fall short and hopes are frequently dashed, the abandoned school structure stood as a stark symbol of neglect and broken commitments by the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to the National Chief Imam’s School, Answarudeen Islamic School at Fadama in Okaikwei North Municipality – Accra.
Speaking to an Opinion leader in the area, Reuben Kofi Obrey, stated that the Answarudeen Islamic School once envisioned as a beacon of education, it now stood forlorn and forgotten to the fleeting attention span of politicians.
According to him, the school was running until 2019 during the Mulid celebration the Vice President promised the National Chief with great fanfare, accompanied by speeches brimming with lofty ideals that that of nature of school he will want to demolish it and upgrade it to a better facility.
So in 2020 the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia ordered that the school which was solely funded by the National Chief Imana should be pulled down and the children moved to a temporary structure.
It has been four years now and the project has been abandoned. The school structure served as a constant reminder of the community’s dashed aspirations.
What was once intended to be a place of learning and opportunity had become a haunting reminder of bureaucratic inefficiency and political apathy.
Parents who had once eagerly anticipated that their children will have a new school now faced the harsh reality of crumbling wooden classrooms. The abandoned structure loomed over the landscape like a monument to unfulfilled promises, casting a shadow of disappointment over the entire community.
As the abandoned structure has broken pipes on the frontage as of the time of visit with stench around the neglected construction site, so too did the sense of resignation among the residents, who had grown accustomed to being let down by the Vice President Bawumia.
An opinion leader therefore called on the Vice President to as a matter of urgency complete the project and bring back children to the school.
“For them to have that serene environment to learn. When I lead you to where they study now it is not a serene environment. It is not a good place, it is just a temporary place so immediately. The school must be completed and children moved here to have a serene place to study.”
