It is too early to count Wontumi out of NPP Chairmanship race – Dr. Boakye-Danquah

Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah a member of Chairman Wontumi’s campaign team, says it is too early to rule Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Wontumi out of the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national chairmanship despite his current legal challenges.

Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, Dr. Boakye-Danquah maintained that Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, has not withdrawn his ambition to contest for the party’s top executive position.

He said the campaign team remains active and committed to securing support for his candidature when nominations are officially opened.

According to him, there has been no communication from Wontumi indicating that he intends to abandon the chairmanship race.

“We still have a campaign very committed to Chairman Wontumi’s ambition to become the national chairman of the party. We haven’t received any indication otherwise,” Dr. Boakye-Danquah stated.

He revealed that one of the last conversations he had with Wontumi after his sentencing focused on the future of the NPP and the need for the campaign team to remain focused on its objectives.

Dr. Boakye-Danquah said Wontumi encouraged his supporters to work towards strengthening the party and helping former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia return to power while also pursuing his own ambition of becoming national chairman.

The campaign spokesperson expressed confidence that Wontumi’s team would take the necessary steps to secure nomination forms once the party begins the process for its national executive elections.

“The ultimate decision on who leads the NPP would rest with delegates of the party,” he stressed.
