Kingsley Atta wins Bantama NPP chairmanship by four-vote margin

Kingsley Atta has won the Bantama New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship election, defeating incumbent Chairman Fiifi Mensah by four votes in a tightly contested poll.

The election, held on Saturday, brought together party delegates from across the Bantama Constituency to elect new leaders to steer the affairs of the party at the local level. The chairmanship race was one of the most closely watched contests, with both candidates enjoying strong support among delegates.

At the end of voting and counting, Kingsley Atta secured 570 votes while Fiifi Mensah obtained 566 votes, giving Atta a slim four-vote victory. The result followed a keen contest that kept party supporters in suspense until the final ballot was counted.

Speaking after his victory was declared, Mr. Atta thanked delegates for the confidence they had reposed in him and pledged to work for the unity and growth of the party in the constituency.

“This victory belongs to every member of the party. It is time for us to come together and focus on strengthening the NPP in Bantama,” he said.

He stressed the need for reconciliation after the fiercely contested election and called on supporters of all candidates to put the competition behind them and work towards a common goal.

The election was a re-run after an earlier contest was annulled by the party’s National Steering Committee over concerns about alleged irregularities. The rerun was therefore seen as an opportunity to bring finality to the dispute and restore calm within the constituency.

Fiifi Mensah, who was seeking another term as chairman, congratulated his opponent and urged party members to remain united despite the narrow outcome. His supporters also accepted the results, paving the way for a smooth transition in leadership.

The outcome reflects the competitive nature of internal party elections in the constituency and underscores the importance of every vote in determining leadership positions.

With the election concluded, attention is expected to shift to rebuilding party cohesion and preparing the constituency for future political activities and national electoral contests.
