Lands Ministry mourns helicopter crash victims

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed deep sorrow over the death of eight distinguished Ghanaians who perished in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region.
In an official statement signed by its Director of Communications, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, the Ministry described the incident as a national tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the victims.
The deceased were travelling to the Black Park in Obuasi to participate in the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) when the crash occurred.
Those confirmed dead include:
1. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
2. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed (MP) – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
4. Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
5. Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
6. Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala
7. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
8. Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
“These eight gallant individuals were en route to the Black Park in Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) when tragedy struck, cutting short their lives and service to the nation,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry emphasized its heartbreak over the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Murtala Mohammed, who were scheduled to deliver keynote messages in support of the mining programme.
“Their commitment to national development and their unwavering support for responsible mining will forever be remembered,” the statement read.
The Ministry concluded by praying for the Almighty to grant eternal rest to the deceased and extended comfort to their families and the entire nation.
