LGBTQ+ Bill: Association of Concerned Clergy demands clear position from Parliament

The National Association of Concerned Clergy (NACOC) has urged Parliament to provide Ghanaians with a clear update on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, insisting that the legislation’s future should not remain uncertain.
The association’s appeal comes after Parliament passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, on May 29, 2026.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, later called for the bill to be reconsidered over procedural concerns, but the House adjourned on July 31 without revisiting it.
In a statement, the association called for Parliament to revisit the bill and the Executive to explain its position, including the legal and constitutional options available.
As Christian leaders, NACOC said, it recognised the importance of faith, family values, moral responsibility, constitutional governance and the protection of human dignity.
It therefore urged Parliament to clarify outstanding legislative and procedural concerns and determine the next steps in accordance with the Constitution.
NACOC said the prolonged uncertainty had left the public in need of clear communication from elected leaders.
“We further call on the President and the Executive to communicate their position clearly, explaining the legal considerations and constitutional options available to them. Leadership requires not only making decisions but also explaining those decisions to the people,” the statement said.
It also stressed that the process must allow religious communities and other stakeholders to have their concerns heard while remaining peaceful and respectful of human dignity.
“Our appeal is for a transparent, lawful, and responsible national process that allows the concerns of religious communities and other stakeholders to be heard. This discussion must be conducted peacefully, without threats, violence, or the dehumanization of any person,” NACOC said.
The association reiterated that Parliament and the Executive must act with constitutional responsibility and respect for the public.
