President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Dumasis Council for donating land to support STEM education development projects in deprived communities across Ghana.
Speaking at the Eid-ul-Adha celebrations at the Black Star Square in Accra, President Mahama said the gesture reflects strong community partnership in advancing national development through education, particularly in science and technology.
“I wish to express my sincere thanks to the council of Dumasis for generously providing land for these important projects. By this initiative, we shall bring quality STEM education to the doorsteps of our deprived communities,” he stated.
He explained that the initiative will help the government expand access to quality STEM facilities, especially in rural and underserved areas where students often lack adequate learning infrastructure.
According to him, investing in STEM education is essential for preparing young people for the demands of a modern, technology-driven economy.
He noted that skills in science, engineering, and digital innovation are increasingly becoming the foundation for national growth and competitiveness.
He stressed that many communities still struggle with limited access to well-equipped schools, laboratories, and trained teachers in STEM subjects, which affects students’ performance and future opportunities. He said the new initiative aims to close this gap and ensure equal access to quality education.
He further indicated that the project will contribute to reducing regional inequalities in education by ensuring that students in deprived areas receive the same opportunities as those in urban centres.
The President added that the government remains committed to strengthening the education sector through targeted investments, partnerships with traditional authorities, and community-driven initiatives.
The Eid-ul-Adha celebration at the Black Star Square brought together Muslim leaders, government officials, and members of the public to mark the occasion, while also serving as a platform for messages on national unity and development in the Country.
