Mahama joins African leaders in Nairobi for Africa Forward Summit

President John Dramani Mahama is in Nairobi, Kenya, to participate in the Africa Forward Summit, a major France-Africa partnership forum focused on sustainable development, economic transformation and global cooperation.

The summit, hosted by Emmanuel Macron, has assembled African leaders, international development institutions and global investors to discuss strategies aimed at strengthening Africa’s economic resilience and long-term growth.

President Mahama is attending the meeting in his capacity as the African Union Champion for African Financial Institutions.

As part of the summit programme, he is expected to participate in a high-level session on green industrialisation and energy transition.

The discussions will examine how African countries can expand industrial growth while responding to climate challenges and the global transition toward cleaner energy systems.

The engagement also reflects Ghana’s broader policy direction on sustainable industrialisation and energy sector reforms.

President Mahama is further scheduled to join discussions on reforming the international financial architecture during a working lunch with global leaders and development partners.

The conversation is expected to centre on improving Africa’s access to sustainable financing and building a more balanced global financial system capable of responding to the continent’s development needs.

Over the years, President Mahama has consistently advocated for stronger African financial institutions to support economic independence and reduce the continent’s dependence on external systems.

The summit will also see the Ghanaian leader co-chairing a roundtable discussion on healthcare under the theme, “Rethinking Global Health and Building Resilient National Health Systems.”

According to the Presidency, the session forms part of Ghana’s Accra Reset Initiative, an intervention designed to strengthen national healthcare systems and improve preparedness for future public health emergencies.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Mahama is expected to hold separate bilateral meetings with António Guterres, Kristalina Georgieva and Alvaro Lario.

The discussions are expected to focus on economic cooperation, food security and broader development partnerships involving Ghana and other African countries.
