Mahama, Naana Jane to attend Atta Mills commemorative lecture on Tuesday

President John Dramani Mahama, together with Vice-President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, is set to attend this year’s commemorative lecture honouring the life and legacy of former President John Atta Mills today, Tuesday, 22nd July 2025.
Celebrated on the theme, ‘Atta Mills: A Case Study For The Fourth Republic,’ it will afford the president the opportunity to honour his former boss, who passed away while in office.
The sad event on 24th July, 2012, culminated in the swearing-in of then Vice-President Mahama as Head of State before Parliament.
This year’s lecture will come off at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Ohene Kofi Konadu Auditorium. The scheduled date is just two days from the thirteenth anniversary of the sitting president’s passing away in 2012.
Former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei is expected to deliver the 2025 commemorative lecture honouring the life and legacy of former President Mills.
The J.E.A Mills Memorial Heritage under whose auspices the event is held, has announced that Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House, Julius Debrah will grace the lecture as the chair.
Since President Mills passed on, memorial lectures have been held to honour his contributions to Ghana’s story in capacities as an academic, a politician and the nation’s 3rd President of the 4th Republic.
Last year, the Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. delivered the lecture.
Other previous guest speakers include former Local Government Minister, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi; former Education Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, former United Nations Envoy to West Africa and the Sahel Region, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas; former Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria, Dr Kayode Fayemi, just to name a few.
The 13th John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture, which comes off on Tuesday, will be delivered by former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei.
