Mahama receives ECOWAS Chair Maada Bio over devastating floods

President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed Sierra Leonean President and ECOWAS Chair, Julius Maada Bio, to Ghana, describing the visit as a demonstration of African solidarity following the recent devastating floods.

President Mahama received President Bio at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, July 3, during a visit aimed at expressing support for Ghana after severe flooding affected several communities, destroyed property and displaced thousands of residents across the country.

Speaking during the engagement, President Mahama thanked the ECOWAS Chair for the visit, saying it reflected the strong bonds that exist among African nations during times of difficulty.

“This visit is a demonstration of African solidarity and our shared commitment to support one another in moments of crisis,” President Mahama said.

The President noted that government agencies and emergency responders continue to work in affected areas to provide relief items, assist displaced families and restore essential services in communities hit by the floods.

President Bio conveyed his condolences to families who lost loved ones and expressed sympathy to those affected by the disaster.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Economic Community of West African States to stand with Ghana as it recovers from the impact of the floods.

“We stand with the people of Ghana during this difficult period and remain committed to supporting efforts aimed at recovery and rebuilding,” President Bio stated.

The visit comes as authorities continue assessments of the destruction caused by the floods and intensify efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to affected communities across the country.
