Mahama’s vision to support SMEs

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in the economy of any country.
In Ghana for instance, they represent about 85% of businesses, largely within the private sector, and contribute about 70% of Ghana’s gross domestic product (GDP).
Some of their importance are as follows:
Job creation: SMEs are significant contributors to job creation, especially in developing countries. They provide employment opportunities for a large number of people, helping to reduce unemployment rates and alleviate poverty.
Economic growth: SMEs contribute to economic growth by driving innovation, competition, and productivity. They often introduce new products and services to the market, stimulate investment, and increase overall economic activity.
Regional development: SMEs are often located in rural or underserved areas, helping to promote regional development and reduce urban-rural disparities. They can also support local communities by providing goods and services tailored to their needs.
Entrepreneurship and innovation: SMEs are breeding grounds for entrepreneurship and innovation. They allow individuals to pursue their business ideas, experiment with new technologies, and adapt to changing market conditions.
Diversification and resilience: SMEs help diversify the economy by operating in various sectors and industries. This diversification can make the economy more resilient to external shocks and reduce dependence on a single sector.
Contribution to exports: SMEs can play a significant role in export activities, helping to increase foreign exchange earnings and expand market access for domestic products.
Overall, SMEs are vital for sustainable economic development, job creation, and poverty reduction. Supporting and promoting the growth of SMEs can have a positive impact on the overall economy and society.
The presidential adopt any for the 2024 polls in Ghana, H.E. John Mahama has a vision to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country. He believes that SMEs are the backbone of the economy and play a crucial role in creating jobs and driving economic growth.
Mahama has proposed a number of initiatives to support SMEs, including providing access to affordable financing, improving infrastructure and logistics, and creating a conducive business environment for entrepreneurs. He also aims to promote innovation and technology adoption among SMEs to help them compete in the global market.
Additionally, Mahama has pledged to streamline government processes and reduce bureaucratic red tape to make it easier for SMEs to do business. He has also promised to provide training and capacity-building programmes to help SMEs improve their skills and productivity.
