Man taken into police custody over alleged eye-stabbing

A domestic dispute in Sefwi Abrokofe, Juaboso District, Western North Region, has left a woman critically injured after she was allegedly stabbed in both eyes by a family member.
The suspect, 55-year-old William Gyamfi, popularly known as Kwasi Manso, has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation between Gyamfi and the victim, Akua Agyeiwaa, who is believed to be in her early 50s, escalated following a disagreement that quickly turned violent. The alleged attack inflicted severe injuries that required the immediate intervention of medical personnel, and the victim was rushed to the Juaboso Government Hospital for emergency treatment. Medical sources report that her condition remains serious but stable.
Upon receiving reports of the attack, a patrol team from the Juaboso District Police quickly moved to the scene. Residents had reportedly confronted Gyamfi before the police arrived, leading to visible injuries including a swollen left eye, a forehead wound, and bleeding from his left leg. He was treated at the hospital before being formally taken into police custody. Authorities have confirmed that he is cooperating with investigators as the case continues.
Community members allege that Gyamfi has a history of violent behavior, claiming he previously attacked his brother-in-law with a cutlass. These reports have heightened community concern over his alleged aggressive tendencies. Many residents are calling for decisive action, emphasizing that unchecked violence can have serious consequences for families and the broader community.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Sefwi Abrokofe, with community members urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served. They believe that prosecuting the suspect will serve as a deterrent to prevent similar acts in the future.
Witnesses also stressed the need for greater awareness of domestic violence and the importance of conflict resolution before disagreements escalate into serious harm. One resident commented, “This tragic incident shows how quickly a family dispute can become dangerous. We hope the authorities act swiftly to protect families and uphold justice.”
