Many SHS, tertiary students back NDC in Akwatia by-election – Mussa Dankwah

Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, says a significant number of senior high school and tertiary students in Akwatia will vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate inAkwatia by-election.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, August 30, Mr. Dankwah explained that the Akwatia by-election will see many young voters, especially students, shifting their support towards the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Bernard Bediako. He stressed that these students are motivated by issues of education and job creation rather than sympathy for the late MP.

Mr. Dankwah further revealed that most of the young voters previously supported the late Ernest Yaw Kumi of the NPP but have now switched to the NDC ahead of the Akwatia by-election. “For them, it is about improving the quality of education in the constituency,” he said. “Those with senior high school qualifications are looking for sustainable jobs.”

Confident about the outcome, the Executive Director stated, “I am 99% sure that the NDC will win the by-election.”

A fresh Global InfoAnalytics poll supports his assertion, showing Lawyer Bernard Bediako projected to secure 53% of the vote, while Solomon Asumadu of the NPP is expected to garner 47%.

In a social media update on Friday, August 29, Mr. Dankwah explained that Bediako’s lead in the Akwatia by-election is largely driven by voters seeking development and strong backing from SHS and tertiary-level voters.

The survey also indicated that while 57% of voters intending to cast sympathy-based ballots hold JHS education or no formal qualifications, sympathy voting only accounts for 4% of total voter priorities. “NDC’s Bediako overtakes NPP’s Asumadu three days before the crucial polls in Akwatia. His lead is propelled by voters who want development and SHS and tertiary voters who preferred him by a larger margin,” the update added.

The Akwatia by-election, scheduled for September 2, follows the passing of NPP MP Ernest Yaw Kumi in July 2025, only months after his election.
