Matilda Asante-Asiedu replaces Dr. Asiamah on GoldBod board

The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has clarified that Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama is no longer a member of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Board and has not participated in its activities since May 2026.
The clarification comes amid public discussions about the Bank’s representation on the GoldBod Board, with the central bank stressing that its current representative is Mrs. Asante-Asiedu and that the Governor has had no involvement in Board activities since May 2026.
In a press release issued on September 28, 2026, the central bank said the clarification became necessary following recent public commentary regarding its representation on the GoldBod Board. The Bank stated that Dr. Asiama ceased serving as a member of the Board effective May 11, 2026.
According to the statement, the Governor has not taken part in any meetings or activities of the GoldBod Board since leaving the position.
“Dr. Johnson Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, ceased to serve as a member of the GoldBod Board effective 11 May 2026,” the statement said.
The Bank explained that its representation on the Board is governed by Section 4 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), which allows the Governor or a Bank official not below the rank of Director to serve on the Board.
To fulfil this requirement, the Bank nominated its Second Deputy Governor, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, as its representative on the GoldBod Board. The statement noted that she has since assumed the role and is currently representing the Bank on the Board.
“The Bank has nominated its Second Deputy Governor, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu, to serve as its representative on the Board,” the statement stated.
The Bank further emphasized that Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s appointment ensures compliance with the statutory requirements governing the composition of the GoldBod Board.
“Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has since assumed that role and represents the Bank on the GoldBod Board in fulfilment of the statutory requirement,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to good governance, the Bank said it remains focused on maintaining transparency and preventing conflicts of interest in the discharge of its responsibilities.
“BOG remains committed to the highest standards of governance, transparency and the avoidance of any actual or perceived conflict of interest in the discharge of its mandate,” the statement said.
