Mobile money vendor killed in armed robbery attack at Gomoa Dominase

A mobile money vendor has been shot dead while another person remains in critical condition following a violent armed robbery attack at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The incident, which has left traders and residents in shock, occurred when a group of heavily armed men reportedly invaded the busy market and opened fire, creating panic among traders and customers.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers, believed to be a five-member gang, fired numerous gunshots during the operation before fleeing the scene. The sound of the gunfire sent traders scrambling for safety as business activities came to an abrupt halt.
One of the victims, a mobile money operator, sustained severe gunshot wounds and died as a result of the attack. Another individual who was caught in the shooting was rushed to a health facility and is currently battling for his life.
An eyewitness, Yussif Mohammed, recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that the deceased suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
According to him, confusion initially gripped the market as many traders believed the gunshots were linked to a police operation taking place in the area.
He explained that this assumption delayed any immediate response from people nearby, as many stayed away from the scene until the true nature of the incident became clear.
The attack has heightened fears among traders, particularly mobile money operators and business owners who have increasingly become targets of armed criminals in various parts of the country.
Residents and market leaders are now calling for stronger security measures to protect lives and businesses within the community.
In the aftermath of the incident, Chairman of the Gomoa Potsin Neighbourhood Watch Committee, Ebo Anderson, appealed to the Inspector-General of Police to strengthen security operations in the area.
He urged the police administration to provide the Gomoa Dominase District Police Command with adequate logistical support and resources to enhance crime-fighting efforts and respond effectively to growing security concerns.
According to him, improving police visibility and operational capacity in the district will help deter criminal activities and restore confidence among residents and traders.
The latest attack has once again drawn attention to the security challenges facing some commercial centres and has renewed calls for enhanced protection for mobile money vendors, who continue to face significant risks in the course of their work.
Security agencies are expected to investigate the incident and intensify efforts to track down those responsible for the deadly attack.
