NAIMOS arrests 32 Nigerians, 4 Ghanaians in major crackdown on galamsey in Osino

NAIMOS conducts massive dawn strike at Eastern Region, arrests several foreign galamseyers (32 Nigerien and 4 Ghanaians) in swoop at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District on 8th November, 2025.
The National Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (NAIMOS) has arrested 36 individuals, including 32 Nigerians and four Ghanaians, for engaging in illegal small-scale mining
The operation was a coordinated dawn raid at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District.
Officials from NAIMOS said the operation formed part of intensified nationwide efforts to dismantle illegal mining networks that continue to destroy farmlands, contaminate water bodies, and endanger lives.
Authorities indicated that the suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted after investigations are completed.
Such raids are expected to be replicated in other hotspots in the fight against galamsey remains a top government priority.
Government has urged the public to support the campaign against illegal mining by reporting suspicious activities, promising that sustained collaboration will help safeguard the country’s natural resources for future generations.
NAIMOS, a centralized agency in Ghana launched to combat illegal mining activities, known as galamsey.
Its purpose is to coordinate and lead intelligence-led operations against illegal mining, including dismantling sites, arresting individuals, seizing equipment, and restoring degraded lands and polluted water bodies.
Last weekend, personnel from NAIMOS were attacked during an assignment at Hwidiem.
It took the intervention of the police to avert a gory situation involving an angry mob in the community and the security personnel.
