National Chief Imam appoints new Executive Secretary

Alhaji Osumanu Seidu has been appointed Executive Secretary of the Office of the National Chief Imam, filling a vacancy created by the death of the previous office holder.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was made by the National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in an official notice dated December 30, 2025.
Announcing the decision, the Office of the National Chief Imam said the appointment was necessary to address an administrative gap and ensure the smooth running of the secretariat. “His Eminence the National Chief Imam of the Republic of Ghana has officially appointed Alhaji Osumanu Seidu as the new Executive Secretary of the Office of the National Chief Imam of Ghana with immediate effect,” the statement said.
According to the notice circulated to Regional Chief Imams, Islamic organizations, public institutions, and media houses, Alhaji Osumanu Seidu brings years of experience to the role, having worked closely with the late former Executive Secretary ecretary.
The office noted that this background positions him well to maintain continuity and preserve institutional memory.
“Before this appointment, Alhaji Osumanu Seidu has worked closely under the former Executive Secretary, the late Alhaji Awaiso Bio, for many years,” the statement explained, adding that he comes with “a measure of experience and exposure necessary for continuity and preservation of institutional memories in the general operations of the office.”
In a separate letter personally addressed to Alhaji Osumanu Seidu, Sheikh Dr. Sharubutu said the decision reflected confidence in his ability to lead the secretariat effectively.
“I have decided in my capacity as the National Chief Imam of Ghana to officially appoint you as the substantive executive secretary of the Office of the National Chief Imam of Ghana with immediate effect,” the Chief Imam wrote.
The Chief Imam further outlined expectations tied to the role, stressing the importance of integrity and dedication.
“As you execute your mandate as the head of the Secretariat, it is expected of you to uphold the sanctity, integrity, and credibility of the Office to the best of your ability,” the letter stated.
Encouraging diligence, Sheikh Dr. Sharubutu added, “I hope that you will discharge your duty with dedication to justify the appointment,” while offering prayers for divine guidance in the discharge of his responsibilities.
Key state and religious institutions, including the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Chieftancy and Religious Affairs, and the Local Government Ministry, have been duly informed.
With a Degree in Marketing, an MBA in General Management, and an MA in Public Sector Management, Alhaji Osumanu Seidu is expected to assume full administrative responsibility for the Office of the National Chief Imam as the secretariat continues its religious, social, and peacebuilding engagements across the country.
