National Tenants’ Union declares support for Mahama, NDC’s housing projects

The National Tenants Union of Ghana (NATUG) has officially endorsed the housing policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a thorough review of proposals from various political parties.
This endorsement highlights NATUG’s belief that the NDC’s approach addresses the critical housing challenges faced by tenants across the nation.
In a statement NATUG in indicated the NDC’s plan to establish an independent Rent Authority by transforming the existing Rent Control Department. This initiative is seen as a vital step toward ensuring better regulation and protection for tenants, allowing for more effective oversight of rental practices in Ghana.
In addition, NATUG expressed strong support for the NDC’s commitment to introducing low-interest rent advance schemes and promoting affordable housing options. These measures are viewed as crucial for making housing more accessible to low- and middle-income families, ultimately contributing to improved living conditions.
Conversely, NATUG criticized the housing promises made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing them as “recycled, unfulfilled, and broken.” This statement reflects the union’s disappointment with the NPP’s track record on housing issues, underscoring their belief that the NDC offers a more viable solution for Ghanaian tenants.
“After comparing the housing policies of both parties, the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana have decided to endorse the housing proposals of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).”
“Furthermore, we call on the NDC’s leadership and their Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama to fully implement these policies if elected, to alleviate the housing challenges facing many Ghanaians.
“The Union will hold a future John Dramani Mahama-led government accountable to these promises during the 2025-2028 period.”
