NHIA disburses additional GH¢256.5m in claims, bringing 2026 payments to GH¢1.46bn

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the disbursement of an additional GH¢256.5 million to credentialed healthcare providers nationwide, bringing its total claims payments for 2026 to approximately GH¢1.46 billion.

In a statement dated Thursday, August 7, the Authority said the latest payment was made in two tranches on July 29 and August 3, 2026, to reimburse healthcare providers for claims submitted under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The payments mainly covered services rendered to NHIS members between January and June 2026.

According to the NHIA, the latest disbursement follows an earlier payment of GH¢219.8 million made on July 1 for claims up to May, as part of Executive Management’s commitment to ensuring the monthly reimbursement of healthcare providers.

The Authority disclosed that private healthcare providers received GH¢113.86 million, representing 44.39 per cent of the total amount disbursed. Public health facilities were paid GH¢97.34 million (37.95 per cent), while mission health facilities received GH¢45.29 million (17.66 per cent).

It said the latest payment reinforces its commitment to the timely settlement of legitimate claims to support uninterrupted healthcare delivery across the country.

Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, underscored the importance of prompt claims reimbursement to the effective functioning of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“Timely claims payment strengthens the healthcare delivery system, improves patient outcomes, and reinforces public confidence in the NHIS,” Dr. Bampoe said.

The NHIA reaffirmed its commitment to processing and paying eligible claims promptly as part of efforts to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for all NHIS members.
