Nigeria secures hosting rights for 2026 CAF General Assembly

Nigeria has officially secured the rights to host the 48th Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ordinary General Assembly and the prestigious 2026 CAF Awards.
The announcement was confirmed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, where he disclosed that Nigeria would stage the two high-profile African football events later in 2026.
According to President Tinubu, the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place in October 2026, while the 2026 CAF Awards will be hosted in December of the same year.
Marking a major milestone for the country’s football administration and continental sporting influence.
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly is one of the most important events on the African football calendar, bringing together football administrators, federation presidents and key stakeholders from across the continent to deliberate on policies, governance and the future direction of the sport in Africa.
The CAF Awards, on the other hand, celebrate excellence in African football by recognising outstanding players, coaches, national teams and football officials who have made significant contributions to the game over the year.
Nigeria’s successful bid to host both events is expected to further strengthen its standing within African football and showcase the country’s capacity to organize major international sporting gatherings.
Hosting the events is also likely to attract football dignitaries, investors, tourists and media attention to Nigeria, while boosting the country’s sports and hospitality sectors ahead of the continental football celebrations in late 2026.
