NkrumahFest is a national altar, not a partisan rally – NAPO

Former NPP Vice-Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has described the NkrumahFest as a national platform that should bring Ghanaians together irrespective of political affiliation.
Speaking at the 2026 edition of the festival at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, he commended the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, for convening the annual event.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh said the invitation extended to him, as a leading member of the opposition NPP, to participate in an event organised by a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonstrated the importance of creating spaces for national unity.
He described Nkrumah’s vision as broad and strongly Pan-African, saying his legacy should be celebrated beyond party lines.
“Nkrumah’s vision was expansive, visionary, and fiercely Pan-African.
“That an invitation was extended to me across the aisle of politics to stand on this platform today reminds us that this festival is not a partisan rally, but a national altar of celebration,” he added.
According to him, the NkrumahFest provides an opportunity for Ghanaians from different political backgrounds to reflect on the country’s history and future without allowing partisan considerations to dominate the conversation.
He described Armah-Kofi Buah as a brother, colleague and friend, and said the initiative demonstrated how individuals could promote national values regardless of their political and professional backgrounds.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh urged Ghanaians to preserve the inclusive spirit of the festival and use national commemorations to strengthen unity while reflecting on the contributions of historical figures.
He said Nkrumah’s contribution to Ghana’s independence, nation-building and Pan-Africanism was significant enough to command respect across the political divide.
He further encouraged Ghanaians to place national interests above narrow political considerations and draw lessons from Nkrumah’s life to promote patriotism, selfless service and national development.
