NPA sets October fuel price floors at GH¢16.09 for petrol, GH¢17.09 for diesel

By Hubeyidatu Mumuni
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has set the minimum ex-pump price for petrol at GH¢16.09 per litre and diesel at GH¢17.09 per litre for the second pricing window of October 2026, covering October 16 to 31.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has also been pegged at a minimum price of GH¢13.87 per kilogramme for the same period.
The new price floors were announced in a notice issued by the NPA and dated October 12, 2026, as part of its regulatory oversight of petroleum product pricing in the country.
According to the notice, the minimum ex-pump prices for the other petroleum products are GH¢17.20 per litre for locally supplied Marine Gas Oil (MGO Local) and GH¢17.45 per litre for kerosene.
The Authority said the price floors are intended to guide Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) during the pricing window.
“As per the Petroleum Product Pricing Guidelines (PPPG), all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) are entreated to comply with the above price floors for the window under consideration,” the NPA stated.
The Authority, however, clarified that the announced floors do not represent the final prices consumers will necessarily pay at fuel stations.
It explained that the minimum prices exclude premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs), as well as the operating margins of Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs).
The notice further stated that the price floors do not include the marketing and dealer margins of OMCs and LPGMCs.
“These will be independently determined by the companies as pertains under the PPPG,” the Authority added.
The clarification means that actual pump prices may vary among fuel stations depending on the additional charges and margins applied by individual petroleum marketing companies.
The NPA’s announcement takes effect for the second pricing window of October, which runs from October 16 to October 31, 2026.
The Authority urged petroleum marketing companies to adhere to the stipulated minimum prices in line with the applicable pricing guidelines.
