NPP 2026 Primaries: Akufo-Addo rallies aspirants to uphold party unity

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has brought together all five New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants for a unity breakfast meeting.

The engagement ended with a collective pledge for a peaceful and issue-based campaign ahead of the party’s presidential primary on January 31, 2026.

According to a statement from his office dated Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the meeting — held at his private residence in Nima, Accra — was aimed at fostering camaraderie and consolidating party cohesion before the internal contest.

The event was attended by leading figures of the party, including the Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang; Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey; General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong; Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin; and former Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

The five aspirants present were Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

In his remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed his “profound gratitude to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread with me.”He described their attendance as “a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.”

He further noted that he has “worked closely with each aspirant and holds them in high esteem,urging them to run “a healthy, issue-based campaign that focuses on presenting their visions to party delegates.”

Akufo-Addo reaffirmed that his “primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to working towards a properly energised and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.”

In a significant show of solidarity, all five aspirants gave their personal assurances to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign environment. They also pledged to rally behind the eventual winner and work collectively to strengthen the party after the primaries.
