NPP leaders should beg IGP Yohuno for Abronye’s release – Martin Kpebu

Martin Kpebu has indicated that Abronye’s detention by the police is unnecessary and must end however, he has called on all top NPP leaders to beg IGP Yohuno for Abronye’s release.

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has urged NPP leaders to beg IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno for Abronye’s release, stressing that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman’s continued detention is unjustified.

According to Kpebu, it is crucial that NPP leaders beg the IGP Yohuno because such intervention could secure Abronye’s freedom without delay. He emphasised that the outspoken Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, poses no flight risk and does not deserve to remain in custody.

Kpebu noted that Abronye was arrested on September 8 and remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for one week to allow further investigations. He argued that prolonged custody was unnecessary and urged party executives to directly appeal to the Inspector General of Police.

“This is a small offence that somebody in the position of a regional chairman is not likely to abscond. If the right calibre of seniors in NPP go to approach the IGP, this case can be withdrawn,” Kpebu stated.

He added that IGP Yohuno’s previous service as Deputy IGP under former President Akufo-Addo could make him more receptive if senior NPP leaders intervene.

Mr. Kpebu concluded that keeping Abronye in detention for another week is both unfair and unnecessary, stressing that swift action from the NPP leadership could restore justice.

Abronye has been accused of stating on a television platform that all strategic meetings conducted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Akwatia had the Inspector General of Police (IGP in attendance.

Again, the Bono Regional Chairman is alleged to have stated that the current IGP, Tetteh Yohuno, is the “most corrupt” IGP in the country’s history.

He has, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile, in court today, supporters of the accused person besieged the premises with leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including the former Chairman, Freddie Blay, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, and National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye all in attendance.
