NPP needs strategy, not arrogance – Kankam Boadu

As internal tensions continue to simmer within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. David Kankam Boadu has called for a shift from confrontational leadership to strategic engagement. He cautioned that unchecked arrogance could undermine the party’s prospects ahead of the 2028 elections.
Mr. Boadu, who is vying for the party’s National Chairman position, emphasised that the ongoing disputes surrounding former Minister Professor Frimpong-Boateng risk damaging the NPP’s cohesion and public image. He urged party leaders to adopt a measured approach focused on dialogue, reconciliation, and long-term planning rather than immediate disciplinary action.
“The party must prioritise strategy over the display of power,” Boadu said, noting that aggressive threats of expulsion are counterproductive at a time when membership numbers have already declined. He suggested that a private engagement with Prof. Frimpong-Boateng would be a more constructive path than public confrontations or punitive measures.
He questioned the consistency of the NPP’s disciplinary policies, highlighting contradictions in how amnesty has been granted to some previously suspended members, while others face the threat of expulsion. According to him, these inconsistencies create confusion and erode confidence among rank-and-file members.
“Leadership should calm down, step back, and allow for proper remobilisation of members,” he added, stressing the importance of careful deliberation to maintain party unity and morale.
Political analysts have noted that prolonged internal disputes can have far-reaching effects on a party’s electoral performance. Boadu warned that without a united front, the NPP risks weakening its support base, regardless of who is eventually elected to lead the party.
“The back-and-forth between leadership and Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s team is harming the party’s reputation,” he said. “If we do not manage these tensions carefully, it could have serious consequences for the 2028 elections.”
