NPP panicking over Mahama’s asset recovery drive – Kwakye Ofosu

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of panicking over President John Dramani Mahama’s asset recovery campaign, known as Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the NPP’s recent outbursts over the government’s anti-corruption efforts show that the opposition is fearful of accountability. He said the Mahama administration’s ongoing operation to trace and recover assets linked to alleged corruption under the previous NPP government has unsettled some former officials.

“They are not happy that their misdeeds, corruption, and corrupt practices while in government are coming to light. They are unhappy that the Government of Ghana is implementing the Operation Recover All Loot, which is a policy we canvassed before the people of Ghana. Through that, we will be able to hold them to account,” he stated.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu dismissed claims by the NPP that the recovery exercise is politically motivated. He insisted that the government’s actions are guided by transparency, justice, and accountability rather than revenge.

“They think that by holding them to account, they will be exposed for the people of Ghana to see that they were not trustworthy and that they abused the mandate and resources that were given to them. That is the only reason why they are saying the things they are saying,” he added.

The NPP has described President Mahama’s anti-corruption drive as a state-sponsored witch hunt targeting former government appointees. However, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu maintained that the government remains resolute in recovering stolen assets and ensuring justice is served.

He stressed that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative was part of the Mahama administration’s 2024 campaign promises and represents its commitment to fighting corruption and promoting good governance.

The Minister said the exercise aims to recover state assets and funds allegedly misappropriated during the NPP’s time in power. He added that the government has already made progress in identifying and reclaiming some properties linked to past corruption cases.
