Parliament: I won’t let the people of Ghana down- James Agalga.

The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians and to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the trust and confidence in him upon his appointment to lead Parliament and oversee government business.

Speaking on TV3, James Agalga recognised the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the role as the majority leader and leader of government business.

“I would like to thank his excellency the President and the leadership of my party, the chairman and the general secretary, who have reposed so much confidence in me to serve as a Majority Leader.

“I am grateful, and I can assure you that I will not let them down. I will not let the people of Ghana down as a majority leader,” he noted.

According to him, he didn’t see this coming his way; after many years serving in parliament, it could be possible.

“I was quite surprised, but again I also know that having served in parliament for quite some time i mean, anything is possible,” he said.

The nominated majority leader said he is already for the task ahead, which is his mandate to lead both the majority and the minority to right cost.

“The leadership in the House, if you are made the majority leader, what it means is that you must develop the capacity to, first of all, move the majority side along, as well as the minority,” James Agalga pointed out.
According to him, being a leader of government business is not an easy deal. “That entails a lot of hard work, and you will be required to learn to build consensus when the need arises.”

“My party has a clear, if you like, blueprint for our country’s overall development. So as majority leader and leader of government business, I would champion the course of government in its quest to deliver on that blueprint and the mandate that the people of this country have given us,” he said.
He concluded by saying, “At the same time, I would work to ensure that the interests of the people are met.”

James Agalga is a Member of Parliament for Builsa North, who has been appointed as the new Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament. He succeeds Mahama Ayariga, who stepped down from the role following his nomination as a Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs Minister in Mahama’s first reshuffle in his second term as president.
