Police foil robbery attempt in Accra – Two suspects shot dead

The Ghana Police Service foiled a planned armed robbery in Accra following an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the death of two suspects and the injury of a police officer.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 15, 2025, and was confirmed in an official statement published on the Ghana Police Service’s Facebook page.
According to the statement, the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) at the National Headquarters picked up credible intelligence that five armed men had checked into a hotel in Labadi and were planning to rob a foreign national at Cantonments.
The suspects, who were being monitored, were tracked as they moved out in a Toyota Yaris vehicle believed to be intended for the operation.
The Police say that while en route to the target location, the suspects detected surveillance and opened fire on the officers. One officer was hit by gunfire and sustained injuries to his legs and underarm.
Police personnel returned fire, injuring two of the suspects. The two were later confirmed dead at the Police Hospital.
The injured police officer was taken to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment. His condition has been described as stable.
Two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, several live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other items were retrieved from the suspects’ vehicle.
The remaining three suspects fled the scene and are currently on the run.
The Police have not released the identities of the suspects but have assured the public that investigations are ongoing. Members of the public with relevant information have been urged to assist in locating the fleeing individuals.
This development comes as part of what the Police say is a broader effort to prevent violent crime in the capital through intelligence-led surveillance and rapid response tactics.
