Prepare unofficial records on corrupt NPP officials – Asuogyaman MP tells NDC Lawyers

The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko has asked lawyers with National Democratic Congress (NDC) to prepare unofficial dossiers on corrupt New Patriotic Party (NPP) for prosecution in 2025 when NDC returns to office.
The MP disclosed this when he was addressing NDC lawyers during the opening of 3rd Annual Lawyers conference by NDC Lawyers Association at Akosombo in Eastern Region on September 1, 2023.
“Anytime we engage in debate with our people on the opposite side, at the end of the day, they challenge us if you say they are corrupt, how many of our people have you been able to prosecute. So as our lawyers you must begin to be writing down, preparing unofficial dossiers on those corrupt NPP officials in readiness for their prosecution in 2025 when we come to power, that will be your greatest contribution to our party going forward,” the lawmaker stated.
According to him, winning political cases will boost the morale among of NDC members and supporters of the party ahead of 2024 elections.
“The political cases that we win enhance the morale of our people so you must work hard to win more and more cases especially in the 2024 year because of the elections. It means we must choose our battles carefully.
“Today there is general perception that NDC is likely to win 2024 elections but NPP has a way of stealing the elections and they will steal the elections from the NDC, which is a dangerous perception. Because it will go to discourage our members who wants to see us win. So winning those political cases will go a long way to give hope to our people that no matter the case since we are winning genuinely if they try to steal we will win also .We don’t want to wait to go to court. We must win and win massively but we need you,” Mr. Ampem Nyarko stated.
However, a former Director of Election, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has described the Electoral Commissioner of Ghana Jean Adukewi Mensah as biased as she instill on conducting the upcoming Limited Registration Exercise across the country at its District Offices.
According to him, if the Limited Registration Exercise is conducted at District Officer it has the potential of disenfranchising many qualified voters.
Mr. Ankrah addressing 3rd Annual Lawyers Conference of NDC Lawyers Association in Akosombo in the Eastern Region on Friday in Friday, he urged Ghanaians to call on the EC to rescind on such a decision of conducting the registration at its District Offices.
“On countless occasions we made what we considered to be valuable inputs. Sometimes supported by the other side. I can cite so many cases, for example the last registration exercise before the 2020 election. We are going into an election. Can we consider going back only for the EC to display such behavior to other minority parties. The very reasons we left them have been fed with the same medicine,” the former NDC Director of Elections stated.
He also stated that the NDC cannot be the problem but rather EC failing to take cogent suggestions from the NDC.
“The problem is not us. The problem is the attitude, stance and Posturing of the Electoral Commission. Why do we go to IPAC? We go to IPAC so that we can make inputs. It doesn’t mean that whatever we say should be taken hook, line and sinker. There is history of IPAC, suggestions are made, it is shaped, it is agreed and disagreed but we reach consensus this has been the tradition since 1993. What is it about this current EC that they will not take any input irrespective of how sanguine it is” Mr. Ankrah stated worried.
