President Mahama appoints Aaron Kanor acting customs commissioner

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Aaron Kanor as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), according to a letter sighted by Today.com.gh.
The appointment, contained in a letter dated February 23, 2026, from the Office of the President and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 16(1) of the Ghana Revenue Authority Act, 2009 (Act 791), as amended.
In the letter sighted by Today.com.gh, the President indicated that the appointment is pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
“I write to inform you that His Excellency, the President of the Republic, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 16(1) of the Ghana Revenue Authority Act, 2009 (Act 791), as amended, has appointed you as Acting Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission,” the letter stated.
The letter further noted that Mr. Kanor’s appointment takes effect immediately.
In his new role, he will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Customs Division. His core responsibilities include revenue mobilisation, trade facilitation, border security, anti-smuggling operations, and the enforcement of all customs laws and regulations.
He is also expected to work under the supervision of the Commissioner-General of the GRA to strengthen institutional integrity, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure strict compliance with applicable laws and international best practices.
The President expressed confidence in Mr. Kanor’s ability to discharge his duties with the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability, in line with the government’s commitment to transparency, revenue assurance, and institutional reform.
Mr. Kanor has been directed to formally signify his acceptance of the appointment in writing within seven days of receipt of the letter.
Copies of the appointment letter were forwarded to the Vice President and the Chief of Staff at Jubilee House in Accra.
