Return to work while concerns are addressed — Dr. Apaak appeals Savanna College staff

Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak has appealed to staff of the Savanna College of Education to resume work while the government takes steps to address their concerns, following a planned engagement with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The appeal comes as the Education Ministry moves to engage the staff in discussions aimed at resolving the issues surrounding the situation at the college.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Dr. Apaak announced that he had directed GTEC to meet the staff on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, under the authority of the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
He said the government was encouraging the staff to return to their duties rather than allow the situation to continue while efforts were being made to address their concerns.
“We continue to appeal to the staff of the Savanna College of Education to resume work while their concerns are being addressed,” he stated.
He explained that the directive to GTEC was issued on behalf of the Education Minister to facilitate direct engagement with the affected staff.
“On the authority of the Honourable Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, I have directed the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to engage the staff of the Savanna College of Education,” he said.
The planned meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for GTEC to hear the concerns of the staff and discuss possible ways of addressing them.
The engagement also forms part of the government’s efforts to resolve the situation through dialogue, with the expectation that discussions between the commission and the staff will lead to a positive outcome.
He further expressed optimism about the scheduled meeting, indicating that the government expected the engagement to yield positive results.
“Consequently, a meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd November, 2026. It is our expectation that the outcome of the engagement will be positive,” he added.
