Samanpiid Festival: Heavy security presence at Daduri Park in Bawku

There is a heavy security presence at the Daduri Park in Bawku as Samanpiid Festival set-up is underway.
It is believed that the heavy security presence is because of the chieftaincy issues in the area.
However, a head of the festival the Kusaasis unveiled a historic statue in honor of their revered overlord, Naba Abugurago Asigiri Azoko ll.
The monument, according to the Kusaasis, is a commemoration of the chief’s forty years on the paramount skin of Kusaug. It is situated at the ‘Bawku Highways’, a central part of the territory.
The chairman of the Samanpiid committee, Solomon Awini, explains that the monument is historic and that the residents of the area will endeavor to protect it from envious and evil people.
The ceremony saw hundreds of natives and visitors gracing the unveil. Cultural dances from all parts of the Kusaug territory were displayed at the palace of the Chief as part of the celebration.
