Sidelining Rawlings’ children would be ‘suicidal mission’- Ada MP warns

Any effort within the NDC to marginalise the children of late former President Jerry John Rawlings would be politically disastrous, Ada MP Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah has cautioned.
She warned that pushing the Rawlings family out of the party would undermine its history and alienate a critical legacy that shaped the NDC’s identity and values.
“This man is no more, and his wife is also no more, but they left us with beautiful children. It is our duty to take good care of them. Anyone who plans to chase these children out of this party will be embarking on a suicidal mission,” she said.
Madam Cudjoe-Ghansah delivered the message during the 44th anniversary commemoration of the December 31, 1981 Revolution, which toppled the Dr Hilla Limann administration and led to the establishment of the Provisional National Defence Council under Jerry John Rawlings.
Held on the theme “Consolidating the Reset Agenda: Reflections on the Gains of the 31st December Revolution,” the event focused on the enduring political and developmental impact of the Rawlings era.
The Ada MP stressed that the NDC bears a collective responsibility to safeguard the political heritage of both the late former President and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, insisting that their children and grandchildren deserve support and protection within the party’s structures.
Reflecting on governance under Rawlings, Madam Cudjoe-Ghansah credited his administration with transforming living conditions in Ada and other parts of the country.
She pointed to interventions aimed at disease control, alongside investments in hospitals, roads, electricity and other essential public services.
She also highlighted the role the Rawlings government played in managing protracted tensions surrounding the Songor Lagoon, describing it as a significant step toward stability in the area.
Turning to constituency-level development, the legislator argued that the NDC’s performance in Ada remains evident across key sectors. She outlined progress in education, citing the construction of new schools and major upgrades at Ada Senior High School and Ada Senior High Technical School.
Healthcare delivery, she said, has been strengthened through the expansion of Community-based Health Planning and Services compounds, bringing primary care closer to residents.
On infrastructure and energy, Madam Cudjoe-Ghansah noted that most communities in the constituency are now connected to the national electricity grid, while major highways and town roads have seen substantial improvements.
She singled out the Ada Sea Defence Project as a landmark intervention, explaining that it has shielded coastal settlements from destructive sea erosion that once threatened livelihoods, homes and lives.
According to her, these achievements collectively underscore the NDC’s developmental footprint in Ada and reinforce the party’s obligation to preserve the legacy of its founding founder.
